The resource

This ‘Source Value Checklist’ is a FREE teaching resource for you to print and use with your students during AQA History source practice. Have you ever asked your students what is meant by value? Or what makes a source valuable?  I asked my students and I was met with silence. We have found that many students only focus upon the accuracy of the content as the sole measure of value. The ‘Source Value Checklist’ therefore, drives the student to consider other ways in which the content of a source can be valuable.

How to use

Students simply tick or cross the appropriate statements alongside the sources they are analysing. As a result, students will have a better understanding of what they can comment upon in relation to value. Extend the task and get your students to write a paragraph on what makes their source valuable. Introduce the resource early into your scheme of work to help students understand the purpose of the question. You might be a student looking to practice their source skills ahead of their summer exam. You can use this too to remind yourself of what factors you can use to evaluate the source.
